With Montgomery County in Phase 2 of recovery from the Covid-19 shutdown, the Pottery partially reopened on July 6, 2020, with carefully redesigned classes and open studio times consistent with covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of students and instructors. Initial sessions were continuing adult wheel and handbuilding students who had registered for the July-September period. A second series of Fall classes began on September 29, 2020, including the addition of a Teen Wheel class.
YEAR-ROUND CLASSES (As available Pre-Covid 19)
Glen Echo Pottery is truly a year-round school. Except for some federal holidays, we hold classes and/or open studio literally every day of the year and for all levels of ability from beginner to advanced. Students' pieces are fired to cone 10 in a gas reduction kiln. Many students register and attend for the whole year not only for the excellent instruction but also for the camaraderie and community. Our pottery has perhaps the best ‘open studio’ arrangement of any in the area—we offer some 26 hours of practice time to our adult students every week at no additional charge over the tuition fee.
To attend a pottery class you must register through Glen Echo Park.
The Park's website (www.glenchopark.org) provides current class schedules (including the start and end dates of each (mostly 6 week) session, registration information, tuition fees, forms, and policies. You have the option to register on-line, by phone, by mail, or in person. You must be preregistered to attend our classes.
To register for a class online go to http://www.glenechopark.org/ceramics-pottery-0.
Classes often fill up fast so we encourage you to register as early as possible! This is especially true for the Adult Beginning Wheel classes and Handbuilding classes.
Classes include those for:
Teen Wheel (ages 12-17)
Adult Beginning Wheel and Continuing Wheel (ages 17 and older)
Adult Handbuilding (ages 17 and older)
These classes are organized in six-week sessions except for slightly shorter sessions in August and December and for the young adult summer camps that operate on an intensive three-week schedule.
